B2B Web Dashboard Design

The Internet of Things is transforming the way we live and interact with technology, but the growing number of connected devices also creates increasingly complex security risks. CyberWhiz addresses these challenges by protecting IoT products across Edge, Mobile, and Cloud, continuously monitoring their cyber state and detecting potential threats.

At the centre of this ecosystem is an AI-powered Defence Center dedicated to IoT, which turns complex cybersecurity data into clear and actionable insights. Designed for IoT manufacturers, CyberWhiz provides a more proactive approach to identifying vulnerabilities, monitoring attacks, and managing security across the entire connected product ecosystem.

At the heart of this ecosystem are two B2B security products designed specifically for IoT manufacturers, offering a more intelligent and proactive alternative to traditional security approaches such as conventional SoCs.

While the Defence Center monitors cyberattacks targeting IoT devices such as automotive systems, white goods, and EV chargers, Mobile focuses on attacks targeting the applications that connect users with these products.

CyberWhiz helps IoT manufacturers identify security vulnerabilities and meet evolving cybersecurity regulations. My challenge was to transform complex security data into a clear, intuitive, and easy-to-use experience for cybersecurity professionals.

I designed a lean, user-centred interface that simplifies complex information, helps users quickly understand security risks, and supports confident decision-making. By turning technical security data into clear and actionable insights, the experience makes cybersecurity easier to navigate, understand, and manage.

Design Approach

The product was designed entirely from scratch, with no pre-existing design assets or UI patterns. I structured the design process around Jesse James Garrett’s Five Planes of User Experience, introduced in The Elements of User Experience, using the framework to guide the project from strategy and user needs through to structure, interaction, and visual design.

Timeline

The timeline was structured around Jesse James Garrett’s Five Planes framework, with the work divided into focused sprints. Each sprint addressed a specific stage of the UX process, progressing from strategy and user needs to structure, interaction, and visual design.

The process was iterative, with insights and design decisions from each stage informing the next. This approach provided a clear direction while allowing the design to evolve and be refined throughout the project.

Persona-Driven Design Process

I translated findings from user research and interviews into actionable personas, mapping their needs, goals, pain points, and behavioural patterns across the product. These personas became a key reference throughout the design process, helping us prioritise critical user journeys and frequently used product areas.

By grounding design decisions in real user needs, I shaped a focused, intuitive, and purpose-driven experience.

Design System

The entire design system was built from the ground up, including information architecture, user flows, interaction patterns, components, visual language, and icons. Since no ready-made data, graphics, or UI assets were available, the design and software teams collaborated to establish a dedicated UI library tailored specifically to the product.

This approach created a consistent foundation across the product while ensuring that the interface and components were designed around the specific needs of the CyberWhiz platform.

Flexible & Scalable Interface

The interface was designed to be flexible enough to adapt to different user needs and workflows, while maintaining a consistent overall experience. Modular components and reusable patterns allowed different product areas to support varying types of security data without introducing unnecessary complexity.

By balancing flexibility with consistency, I created an experience that gives users greater control over their workspace while maintaining a coherent, scalable, and intuitive product experience.

Simplifying Complex Data

The interface maintains a clean and focused view while allowing users to access deeper layers of security data when needed. Interactive cards provide a clear entry point to more detailed information without overwhelming the main view.

This approach reduces visual complexity by presenting the most relevant information first, while still giving cybersecurity professionals access to detailed insights for deeper analysis and decision-making.
