End-to-end Product Design for Mobile

Neo Washing Machine is a cutting-edge appliance that increases the washing experience with AI technology. Conventional washing machines usually have crowded sets of programs and extra functions which creates complexity. The Neo redefines the complex controls and crowded program groups with highly functional and user-friendly interface. It is unique "Optimix" feature optimizes the washing process according to soil level, laundry load, textile type, and dosing detergent ensuring that every garment is cleaned to perfection. With the accompanying HomeWhiz app, users can easily select a greater number of programs remotely.

Aligning with the project management brief, the Neo Washing Machine user experience process began with preliminary research, analyzing the physical designs and connected mobile UX flows of various brands. Following the benchmarking study, user interviews were conducted. The resulting design solution aimed to simplify the laundry experience, enhance user convenience, and seamlessly integrate the mobile application into their daily lives.

Once the design prototype was completed, user scenarios were crafted. A usability evaluation report was then generated based on quantitative online user testing (CAWI) and eye-tracking results.

As a result of user research, every program on the device is not used with the same frequency. According to the results, the most frequently used programs were and are limited to five programs on the machine according to user needs. Easy-to-use interface design, simplified controls, and programs with the help of intelligent technologies create a unique experience for the user. Users are able to reach more numbers of programs, and follow the washing steps on HomeWhiz, this way the laundry process made easier and more effective.

Cohesive Design Solution

Designing a digital experience for a physical product required considering the complete washing journey across both touchpoints. I analyzed existing washing machine interfaces, usage habits, and user needs to create a cohesive experience between the Neo washing machine and the HomeWhiz app.

The UX/UI was shaped around real usage scenarios, with a focus on simplicity, accessibility, and ease of use. Based on user research, the most frequently used programs were prioritized on the physical interface, while direct program selection and simplified controls reduced the complexity of traditional washing machines.

A Playful & Connected Experience

The HomeWhiz app extends the physical product experience by following the same logic and interaction flow. It provides access to additional programs while allowing users to remotely manage and follow the washing process.

To make the experience more engaging and personal, I used custom-designed icons, micro-interactions, and playful visual elements to create clear communication and reinforce the connection between the physical product and its digital counterpart.

Flexible Program Access on HomeWhiz

User research showed that washing programs are not used equally often. Based on these findings, the five most frequently used programs were prioritized on the physical machine, making everyday selections faster and easier.

For users who need more flexibility, the HomeWhiz app provides access to a wider range of programs and additional functions. This approach keeps the physical interface simple and focused, while the app provides greater choice without adding complexity to the machine.
